Minimize your risk of injury or discomfort while using Computer

ICT Education : Takes 5 and lets learn :-P

Hello, did you experience headache or joint pain after using computer for 3 to 4 hours?
Using a computer can cause back, neck and shoulder pain, eye strain  and overuse injuries of your hands and wrists. Too much computer-usage/game playing can contribute to health problems. But you can reduce these risks by following some tips.

Do you ever heard about Ergonomics? In terms of computing, ergonomics refers to how you set up your computer and other equipment to minimize your risk of injury or discomfort.

The following are some guidelines that can help you avoid discomfort, eye strain or injuries while you’re working at your computer:

1.         Position your monitor correctly
This should be at least 25 inches from your eyes and at eye level or so that it is at an angle 15 to 20 degrees below your line of sight.

2.         Purchase an adjustable chair
Adjust the height of your chair so that your feet touch the floor. The chair should include back support.

3.         Assume a proper position while typing
Your wrists should be flat with respect to the keyboard, and your forearms should be parallel to the floor. Specially designed ergonomic keyboards and wrist rests can help you achieve the proper position for your wrists

4.         Ensure that the lighting is adequate

4.         Take breaks from computer tasks
Relax and enjoy some tea ;-)

Ergonomics refers to how you arrange your computer and equipment to minimize your injury or discomfort. This includes adjustable chair that ensures your have good posture while using the computer, assuming a proper position while typing, making sure the lighting is adequate, and not looking at the screen for long periods of time. Other good practices include taking frequent breaks and using other specially designed equipment such as ergonomic keyboards. Ergonomics is also important to consider when using mobile devices.
