The Language of Computers

iCT Education : Take's 5 and let's learn

Bits and Bytes:
The Language of Computers

Lets learn about computer language. Guys do you  know that computer has it own language in other to communicate with the system? To process data into information, computers need to work in a language they understand. This language, called binary language, consists of just two digits: 0 and 1. This works like a light switch where it is either on or off.Everything a computer does is broken down into a series of 0s and 1s. Each 0 and 1 is a binary digit, or bit for short.  Eight binary digits (or bits) combine to create 1 byte.    In computers, each letter of the alphabet, each number, and each special character (such as the @ sign) consists of a unique combination of 8 bits, or a string of eight 0s and 1s. For an example, a capital letter K has a different string of 0s and 1s than a lowercase letter k, for instance. As it turns out, if 8 bits are put together, there are 256 possible combinations. That number of combinations allows for a code that can include all the uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet, all 10 digits, punctuation marks, and many other much-used symbols. We call these 8 bits working together a byte. Bytes are the basic measurement for storage in a computer.

i bet you didnt know about this language right? well welcome to ICT world ;-P

Online learning in education

ICT Education: Takes 5 and let's explore

Now days, The College provides every opportunity for students to develop their skills in teaching and learning using wide range of resources which includes ICT tools. Today let’s us see how on line learning benefits education.

The traditional approach refers to the use of face to face lesson (classroom) this approach has been is the best approach but the question is, it is efficient? lets discover the this advantages of classroom learning and how on line learning could enhance our learning.

Classroom Disadvantages

In contrast to online learning, classroom learning is normally fairly structured. You meet at regularly scheduled times on the same days each week. This limits flexibility with work and other activities. You generally must be in class to get the learning experience and to keep up with requirements. Unless your instructors record lectures, in-class instruction is not available after the class session is over. Students who struggle to focus may also find classrooms and cohorts distracting to their learning experience. this approach does not benefit me much as a part-time student ;-(

Online Learning Advantages

A major reason students turn to online classes is because of the convenience. You can sit at home or go to a library to do your coursework. This eliminates the need for driving, which saves gas, and in some cases, allows you to take classes from distant schools. Online learners also get to develop their Internet, technology and virtual team skills by participating in online discussions, tests and other virtual learning activities. The ability to do coursework on your own schedule and to manage the pace of your learning experience are also benefits to online students.

Conclusion

The benefits of using digital video in teacher training is huge and can have greater impact on the evaluation education field. however, Classroom learning typically offers multi-sensory appeal. You can listen to the instructor, receive visual cues through Power Point images, handouts or whiteboard lists and participate actively in hands-on activities and case studies. You also have direct access to the instructor in class. Interaction is immediate and you normally have opportunities to ask questions and participate in live discussions. This also allows you to benefit form the first-hand accounts of other students' experiences. If you want to build and maintain personal and professional relationships during your education, classrooms also offer greater personal contact with other students. well guys, on-line learning alone not enough to guarantee great score during examination, let's combine these two approach in order to get great achievement in our study.

ICT and Education

IICT Education: Takes 5, let's learn something :-P

Recently, we have learned how ICT benefit education generally in previous posts, now let's learn more on how great ICT benefit education at my learning center (ICCE Kuching).

Using ICT in Distance Education in Kuching,Sarawak.

There are many advantages of using Information and Communication Technology in Teaching and Learning in schools. One important use of ICT that is employed by many institutions world wide is in the delivery of distance education. The increasing use of ICT in institutions has enabled many courses to be made available through distance learning. For example, a student ICCE Kuching does not need to go to Gombak, Selanggor to do a post graduate programme. What the student needs is a good computer with reliable Internet Connection.

The use of ICT in distance learning can benefit different groups of people. The first group is the working class. For various reasons such as family considerations and work commitment an employee can enrol and study while working at the same time. The main problem the student will encounter is time. The student needs to allocate sufficient time for study. The advantage of this option is that the employee will continue working and does not need to leave his or her family to go for studies. In the end the employer and the family are both satisfied

The students have access to wireless broad band internet via satellite. This has enabled the students to communicate with their subject coordinators and as well as submitting their assignments electronicly.

The opportunities of using ICT in distance learning in ICCE Kuching is huge. However, the lack of basic knowledge about ICT,  will prevent the use of ICT in distance learning to be made effectively..how sad...  ;-(

ICT and Education

ICT Education: Takes 5, relax and learn :-o

Hi guys, let's see how ICT could enhance education now days slightly he.. he

  • Computers have given teachers tremendous new tools for presenting information and keeping records.
  • Colleges offer full degree programs totally online. (me myself enjoying it)
  • Vast stores of information are available wherever there is an Internet connection. Libraries have brought the computer into their operations. Training tutorials are used to teach new tasks, and research is done from the desktop. Education will never be the same.
  • Museums are incorporating tools such as podcasts that can be listened to with a smartphone, and multimedia tours that you can download to an MP3 device.
Simple, but hope that it could give you some picture of how great it is to adapt ICT in our Education system :-P

ICT and Education

ICT Education: Takes 5 and let's learn :-D

Today, several technologies are present throughout the world. That’s why I decided to tell you about the integration of ICT in the classroom since it is a subject that many teachers will face. As a teacher, we must rely on strategies that must be used to integrate the tics in the classroom. We must change our way of teaching based on several kinds of technological devices. To enable students to get by in all areas where they need ICT, it is necessary to inform them about these technological tools. Today, most young children are using. It is important to attract the interest of students from multiple sources of reliable and organized. Learners, from the use of technology, will be able to express their creativity.

The benefits of integrating ICT in the classroom
Today, many believe that technology improves considerably and that is why, I suppose we must, as a future primary school teachers, to know the mode of operation thereof. This reality challenges us more, because teachers modify their learning in relation to educational technology. We must, as soon as possible, to face this reality. Even today, we can see that some educators do not include little or virtually no ICT in their teaching. The reason for which they do not use them, is possibly because they do not yet see the value. That’s why the company should provide new markers to better understand the future generation.
The computer allows students to have access to more comprehensive sources of information. They learn basic skills related to information retrieval. In class, the teacher and the manual are not the only sources of information. Several choices are available to them. Moreover, the integration of tics in the classroom can allow us, as a future teacher, to instruct students and to socialize more with respect to websites.
There are many advantages to integrate information technology into the classroom. The constant evolution of these allows us to consider options for future primary school teachers. Of course, one must own and know the use that we can do in the classroom since have sophisticated tools. It is essential to make good use in our classes, because the technologies are the next generation. Educate and socialize students, is it not the primary mission of the school? I think so, and that is why I agree with the integration of these tools in schools. Moreover, the use of ICT has had many impacts on students. According to researchers, they improve the motivation and the pleasure of learning from some things they know well.
In addition, information technology and communication can exploit the websites that are accessible to all. I think students enjoy learning from what interests them and that’s why they come to better understand what is explained by the teacher. Access to sources of information helps the learner to realize their potential for learning and creating. This is an advantage of technology integration in classrooms.
According to researchers, self-esteem can play for students since most of them know the technologies available to them and they are able to understand the explanations and how to use it. The information technology and communication skills help in this area as well as knowledge in each subject and discipline.
Indeed, ICTs can help to develop skills to work in collaboration and data processing. In most cases, teachers encourage teamwork as it allows students to better understand each other. Thus, they talk together and establish common ground.
Second, access to sources of information allows learners to develop meta cognitive skills. The learner needs to advance its technological tools. Using these skills, the teacher establishes technological activities that help them work better on the computer.
Finally, several studies show us that, ICTs promote increased student achievement because this tool allows them to progress at their pace and needs. With the help of access to sources of information, learners are also able to update their learning potential and creativity.
According to Ms. Odette, if a teacher wants to communicate with students, it is essential to have a means of communication. For this, the computer is a good way to convey a message. We must, first of all, make known to students to become experts in this field. We must guide them in their learning. By cons, we must realize that children are born with technology and it is not uncommon for a student or several students excel in this area which is the technologies .It is essential to know that several sources of information available to us and they can be printed and made available to more learners.

To conclude, I strongly believe that the integration of educational technology and communication is a good way to attract the interest of young students. With all kinds of tools, we are able to control what children are doing but we must keep a constant watch for it does not use their technological tool inappropriately during school hours. There, with the constant evolution of these, the advantages and disadvantages to using them. We must still, as a teacher of primary education at all times on new technology compared to what’s coming in the future generation as it is almost here. Finally, would it fit not to include them in the course?

Evaluating Website

ICT Education: Takes 5 and let's learn :-P

Hello guys,

Do you ever have problem in choosing Wed site? Well guys, it is importance to choose the right Web in order to get reliable information, otherwise your assignment would become pointless he...he

Evaluating the content of a Web site is important. Before you believe what the site says or take action based on the information presented, several questions need to be answered:

•     Who exactly owns and operates the Web site?

•    Are the opinions expressed on the site objective, or are they slanted toward one position or another? If it is slanted, why is it slanted?

•     Is the information up to date? How often is the site updated?

 •      who is the site trying to reach with the message?

•    Do the hyper links all work, or are some dead ends? Are the links appropriate?

•     Like anything else, how well maintained a site is helps determine its believability. The same information should exist on at least three different Web sites.

Not all web sites are equal, and some are better sources for research than others. To evaluate whether it is appropriate to use a web site as a resource, determine whether the site is intended for your particular needs. In addition, make sure that the site content is not biased, the information in site are available and appropriate. If multiple site offer the same content, then it is an other indication that the information is accurate.

Well I hope this sharing helping :-P

Enhance WiFi signal

ICT Education:Take 5 and let's learn

Try to use your neighbor WiFi's signal? but the signal is poor..? Do you notice that as you go farther away from the router, the throughput you achieve will decrease? What are the causes? Let’s learn something about the relationship between range and throughput.

Guys, please be noted that besides the the router's capability itself,   Walls, floors, and    large metal objects are the most common sources of interference with wireless signals.  So here some simple tips to improve your signal;

  •  Move the device closer to the router. Throughput decreases as device moves farther away from router.

  • Install wireless range extender,  a wireless range extender is a device that amplifies your wireless signal to get it out to parts of your home that are experiencing poor connectivity.

  • Repositioning the node within the same room or to other rooms in your house can affect communication between nodes. (in case you didn't share your neighbor's WiFi he.. he)
Well guys, hope this short break could help you to learn a little about the relationship between the distance, and the objects that could affect the actual throughput supplied by the router. He..He.. Bye

Internet Connection Option

ICT Education:  Take 5 and let's learn something :-D

What are my options for connecting to the internet?

Home users have many options for connecting to the internet. A dial-up connection, in which you connect to the internet. A dial-up connection, in which you connect to the internet using a standard phone line, was at one time the standard way to connect to the internet.

Today’s broadband connections are faster and have made dial-up a legacy connection technology. Broadband connection include cable, DSL, and fiber-optic.

Satellite is a connection option for those who do not have Wi-Fi allows users to connect to the internet wirelessly, but are not as fast as wired connections.

I hope learn something from this sharing. Have a nice day!!!
